The variety in the types of jobs and how everyone worked independently alongside each other.

I've had a different manager every time I've returned and I wish they'd be consistent.

Bakery Clerk

June 2020 • Council Bluffs, IA

What I liked

I love everything about it. I get along with almost all of the people I work with and even consider some of us friends. I got to do some hands on stuff with packaging baked goods, icing donuts, cookies, and cakes, labeling and putting out product, as well as putting together orders for other stores. I also got to help customers at the donut and bread cases, and my manager was super flexible!

What I wish was different

It would be nice to have a full-time dish washer because doing the dishes isn't the most fun part of the job. Some of us forget to keep the dishwasher going, too, so having someone back there for their whole shift would be helpful. Also, one of our donut fryers wasn't very nice and didn't really listen to our manager, so I think firing him sooner would have been a good idea.

Advice

Just go in and spark up a conversation with someone (or everyone). We all are going to be working together, and it's a lot more fun when you're talking and connecting. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't know how to do something; I ask a million questions every shift!
